The story
An izakaya is, at its core, a Japanese pub — a place to slip into, slow down, and eat well. It can be lavish or simple, but the quality of the small plates is always what matters. That spirit is exactly what Sandra and Daniel brought back from an inspiring trip to Japan, and it's what they set out to recreate when they opened Izakaya Moshi in Växjö in December 2012.
Their vision was clear from the start: a love of food, a family atmosphere, and a place where everyone is welcome. More than a decade on, that commitment hasn't wavered.
White Guide awarded Izakaya Moshi its Fine level recognition for 2026, noting that while the restaurant has moved closer to the city center and feels more accessible than before, the good food remains exactly the same. That consistency — across a change of address and a shift in setting — says something real about the kitchen's dedication.
Since May 2024, the restaurant has been located at Kungsgatan 6A, now sharing an address with the city hotel. The new space feels approachable rather than formal, which suits the izakaya concept perfectly.
The Asian small-plates format invites sharing and grazing — a lunch crowd on weekdays, a more relaxed Saturday sitting that stretches from midday into the evening. Beyond the regular menu, Izakaya Moshi offers omakase experiences and cooking classes, giving guests a chance to go deeper into the food and techniques behind the dishes.
The restaurant is set up to welcome a wide range of guests: families with children, those who prefer vegetarian options, and anyone who simply wants to drop in for a well-made plate and a drink. Outdoor seating, takeaway, and catering round out what is, in practice, a genuinely versatile neighborhood destination — one that happens to cook at a level that earns national recognition.
