The story
Agrill sits at Västerås' eastern harbor with Lake Mälaren as its backdrop, and the concept is straightforward in the best possible way: great meat, cooked over charcoal, served in a room that borrows its aesthetic from the Art Deco era. The open kitchen makes no secret of the process, and according to the chefs working it, the charcoal is simply the reason everything tastes the way it does.
White Guide awarded Agrill its Fine level recognition for 2026, describing the experience as a hearty meat menu cooked on a bed of charcoal, set to a jazz-inspired atmosphere with a view over Lake Mälaren — a combination that clearly earns its place among Sweden's recognized dining destinations.
The sourcing philosophy is specific. Swedish cuts come from Scan, selected and signed off by butcher Benny Granqvist, and the dry-aging rack holds everything from domestic prime cuts to Wagyu and other premium options. The selection criteria are origin, marbling, and tenderness — in that order. Guests choose their cut, the kitchen grills it over wood charcoal, and it arrives with a choice of sauces and sides. Those who prefer fish, vegetables, or a vegetarian plate will find those options on the menu as well.
The cocktail bar runs alongside the dining room with equal seriousness. The drinks list mixes classic cocktails with house signatures built around seasonal ingredients, while the wine list spans traditional European regions and newer producers worldwide. The Kajbaren — the quay bar — adds a more casual layer to the venue, hosting regular events including live music, quiz nights, and themed evenings throughout the season.
Agrill also accommodates large groups, corporate bookings, and private events, with the Mälaren waterfront serving as a natural frame for any occasion. Weekend brunch and weekend lunch round out a program that keeps the restaurant relevant across the full week, not just at dinner.
