Klostergatan 5

A White Guide-recognised bistro in Uppsala serving seasonal Swedish cuisine with bold flavours, local producers and a wine list that keeps pace with the times.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The neighbourhood restaurant Uppsala has been waiting for

Klostergatan 5 — known to regulars simply as K5 — is the kind of place that makes a city feel complete. Large windows, soft lighting, warm wood, concrete grey and green tiles: the room carries the easy confidence of a metropolitan bistro without any of the pretension. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the kitchen is fully switched on.

Seasonal Swedish cooking, done with conviction

The menu is built around small and medium-sized plates, designed for sharing and exploring rather than following a fixed script. Local producers are name-dropped with genuine pride: Löfsta Herrgårdsmejeri and Franzéns Charkuterier both appear, signalling a kitchen that takes its sourcing seriously. The contemporary Swedish approach means classic combinations are revisited with a light hand — duck à l'orange arrives updated with star anise and kumquat zest, a dish that respects tradition while staying very much alive. A dessert of marjoram ice cream with pistachio crumble and timut pepper is the kind of bold, playful finish that earns its place on a menu.

Seasonal ingredients move through the kitchen at their own pace: white asparagus with champagne sauce, green strawberries with white chocolate cream, Miyagawa mandarin served only during its brief window. The Instagram feed reads like a seasonal diary — honest and unfiltered.

Wine, people, and a certain enthusiasm

The wine list runs in a modern direction, tracking current trends with clear confidence. The team's enthusiasm for wine talk is genuine — it's the sort of place where asking about the list opens a real conversation rather than a rehearsed pitch. The White Guide recognised K5 at Fine level for 2026, a nod to exactly this combination: serious cooking, a considered cellar and a room where people actually want to spend the evening.

Hassan — described by the restaurant itself as "en viktig del av k5" — is a reminder that the warmth here comes from specific people, not a concept. That particularity is what makes Klostergatan 5 more than just a good restaurant in Uppsala.

White Guide — Fine level
