Voisine — French for "neighbour" — earns its name on Erstagatan 21 in Stockholm's Östra Söder. The name nods directly to the wine bar Folii around the corner, run by the same duo: Béatrice Becher and Jonas Sandberg. The two addresses share an ownership and a philosophy, and together they make a strong case for spending an entire evening on this single block.

The restaurant's own stated philosophy is disarmingly simple: cook food they actually want to eat themselves. The foundation is French cuisine, but the kitchen borrows freely from elsewhere when it feels right. The result is what they call modern bistro cooking, made with genuine care for good ingredients — no more complicated than that, and no less.

The food and the room

White Guide has recognised Voisine at a very fine level, singling out the Swedish-French direction of the menu and specific dishes that linger in the memory. The slow-cooked Iberico pork pluma with seasonal grilled vegetables draws particular praise, as does the Paris-Brest with hazelnut cream — described as both beautiful and genuinely delicious. Seasonal produce drives the menu throughout: recent dishes have included gnocchi with green asparagus, peas and comté, rainbow trout with green tomato and langoustine sauce, and cod with pointed cabbage, lardo and buckwheat.

The Folii connection
