Prospero

Prospero on Roslagsgatan serves a focused set menu in a relaxed, simply furnished space – Stockholm dining without pretension.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Step Down, a World Apart

Walking into Prospero on Roslagsgatan in Stockholm, you literally step down into the room. It is a small architectural detail, but the White Guide – which has recognised Prospero at a very fine level – puts it well: that single step says everything about the place. This is a restaurant built on the opposite of hubris.

The space is simply furnished and comfortable, the kind of room you settle into rather than perform in. Wines are stored in transparent plastic boxes from IKEA tucked under the benches along the walls – a detail that is either charmingly unpretentious or quietly confident, depending on how you look at it. Either way, it works.

The Food and the Experience

Prospero runs a fixed menu at 595 kr, a format that lets the kitchen commit fully to what it wants to say on any given evening. Drop-in seats are available for guests who want to come in for drinks and snacks without a reservation – a welcome touch that keeps the room alive without turning it into a ticketed event.

The service, noted by the White Guide, is knowledgeable and relaxed, with what the guide describes as an innate fingertip sense for conveying information: not a word too many, never too few. That balance – informed without being performative – is harder to achieve than it sounds, and it is central to what Prospero is.

Why It Stands Out

In a Stockholm dining scene that has no shortage of technically accomplished restaurants, Prospero earns its recognition by doing less, more deliberately. The acoustics are pleasant, the atmosphere unhurried, and the fixed-menu format keeps the focus squarely on the cooking. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from the early evening, closed Sundays and Mondays.

The guests take a step down as they enter the venue, which really says everything about Prospero. This is the antithesis of Restaurant Frantzén. There are no traces of hubris or excessive pretension here. The acoustics are pleasant, the space is simply furnished and comfortable to stay in. The wines are kept in transparent plastic boxes from IKEA under the benches along the walls. The service staff are knowledgeable, relaxed, and have an innate fingertip sense for conveying information. Not a word too many, but never too few.
