The story
Flickan occupies a quiet address in Stockholm's old town, operating as part of Leijontornet's self-described "Gastro Block" — a cluster of hedonist-minded dining concepts sharing a courtyard in the medieval heart of the city. Where Flickan once seated sixteen, it now seats eight, all at the counter. The format is deliberate: every guest faces the kitchen, every course arrives as a small event.
That concentration of focus has not gone unnoticed. White Guide awarded Flickan its Masters level recognition in 2026, describing the food experience as "sublime" — a word the guide does not reach for lightly.
The kitchen works with both luxury and restraint, and knows when to use each. Duck liver au torchon arrives pressed between two toasted brioches with onion rings and a thin slice of well-aged charcuterie — a burger for duck liver aficionados, as the guide puts it, impossible not to like. Chawanmushi egg custard is lifted by a heap of Siberian sturgeon eggs from a German farm, with ramsons pickled in apple cider vinegar and fresh garlic cutting through the richness. A Norway lobster tail, brushed with lemon-pickle butter and blowtorched tableside, is exactly the kind of moment counter dining was made for.
But the kitchen earns equal respect when working with humbler produce. Carrot braised in butter with green juniper berries, dry sherry and crown dill flowers — served with homemade cream and shredded house-hung charcuterie — shows the same precision applied to everyday ingredients. Mushroom ravioli filled with wood hedgehog, yellowfoot, horn of plenty and roasted pumpkin arrives in a broth built from dried cep, chaga and fermented button mushrooms, unusually deep in flavour. A scallop, meanwhile, plays a supporting role to salt-preserved yellow and red tomatoes, grated frozen tomato and Espelette pepper — a dish that quietly reorders expectations.
Sommelier Daniel Crespi is described by White Guide as "ever-present" in spirit if not always in body, and his wine list reads like a personal collection rather than a commercial selection. A nuance-rich champagne from Henriot, a Mosel riesling from Wolfer Goldgrube, a 1999 barbaresco from Giuseppe Cortese, a golden 2004 Viña Tondonia Blanco from Rioja, and a judiciously oaked chardonnay from By Farr in Victoria, Australia — each bottle chosen to become better still alongside the food it accompanies.
The eight seats may feel intimate to the point of sparse, but the experience Flickan delivers within that constraint is fully formed: precise, personal, and built for guests who want cooking and wine to matter equally.
