Coco & Carmen has a long history on Banérgatan in the heart of Östermalm, one of Stockholm's most established residential quarters. Since 2019, the restaurant has been run by the team behind Punk Royale — the group known for pushing boundaries at their venues across Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, and London. At Coco & Carmen, however, they left the theatrics on Södermalm and channelled the energy into something more considered: gastronomic ambition wrapped in a genuinely welcoming neighbourhood setting.

The result is, as the White Guide noted in awarding it a Very Fine Level distinction for 2026, an unexpectedly good marriage. Regulars who have called this corner of Östermalm home for years sit alongside outward-looking food enthusiasts, all gathered around candelabra-adorned tables draped in white cloth, in an atmosphere that is lively and unapologetically noisy in the best sense.

The food and the experience

The kitchen runs on a tasting menu format — deep flavours meeting curiosity, precision moving freely alongside the unexpected. As the restaurant puts it: "the food speaks, the drink seduces, and the atmosphere carries the evening wherever it wants to go." That is not a vague promise. The menu is built around contrast and presence, with each course intended to hold its own rather than blur into a procession.

Lunch is a different register entirely: quick, sharp, and more casual than you might expect from a White Guide-recognised address. The Saturday lyxlunch — a slower, more indulgent midday sitting — offers a middle ground between the weekday pace and the full evening experience.

Drinks are chosen with the same care applied to the kitchen: classics alongside less obvious bottles, selected to match mood and palate rather than simply fill a list.

A neighbourhood place that earns its standing

What makes Coco & Carmen distinctive is precisely the tension it holds together without effort. It is an Östermalm institution that does not rest on that status, run by a team with real gastronomic credentials who have chosen to apply them quietly. The room hums, the tables fill with a genuinely mixed crowd, and the evening tends to go longer than planned — which is usually the best sign of all.
