Brasserie Godot

A French brasserie on Östermalm balancing legendary steak-frites with forward-thinking vegetarian cooking, recognised by the White Guide.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A brasserie that doesn't wait for anyone

Brasserie Godot has long held a particular place in Stockholm's dining scene, occupying a corner of Östermalm where the crowd is loyal and the kitchen refuses to stand still. The format is unmistakably French brasserie — evening openings, a proper bar, late hours on weekends — but the cooking has always carried its own convictions.

Ahead of the curve, then and now

Long before plant-based eating became a talking point in the Swedish restaurant world, Godot was already running a vegan three-course menu. That early commitment to vegetarian cooking wasn't a trend play; it was simply part of what the restaurant believed a brasserie could be. Today, that same kitchen is also producing what the White Guide, which awarded Godot its Fine level recognition in 2026, describes as one of Stockholm's currently biggest steak-frites — a detail that says something about the range on offer here.

The half-gratinated lobster, finished with saffron and garlic, earns a specific mention from the guide for its "wonderful retro note" — the kind of dish that anchors a menu and keeps regulars coming back season after season. These are not fleeting specials. They are the sort of plates that would cause, in the guide's own words, an uproar in the neighbourhood if they disappeared.

The room and the bar

The Chambre Séparée offers a private setting for groups, and outdoor seating brings the brasserie atmosphere onto the street when the Stockholm evenings allow. The bar is a destination in its own right, and wine pairing is available for those who want to follow the kitchen's lead from glass to glass.

Brasserie Godot is the kind of French brasserie that earns its reputation not through reinvention for its own sake, but through consistency, character, and a kitchen that clearly knows what it's doing — and has for some time.

White Guide — Fine level

Isn't it a bit ironic that Godot, which had a vegan three‑course menu long before anyone even learned how to spell plant‑based mince, is now also serving one of Stockholm's currently biggest steak‑frites? But there will surely be an uproar in that city‑close Östermalm neighborhood if it—or the half‑gratinated lobster with its wonderful retro note of saffron and garlic—were to disappear.
