The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Hornstull Institution That Hasn't Aged a Day

When Barbro opened on Hornstulls Strand it was among the most talked-about tables in Stockholm. A decade on, it holds White Guide recognition and has quietly become something more durable than a trend: a neighbourhood institution that people return to again and again. Concrete walls, exposed bulbs, tables packed close together — the room hasn't changed, and neither has the energy.

Asian Small Plates, Scandinavian Soul

Barbro describes itself as a personal Asian restaurant focused on quality, serving well-composed Asian small plates with Scandinavian inspiration. The format is sharing — dishes arrive for the whole table, which keeps the meal social and the pacing lively. The menu is concise and confident, built around ingredients handled with clear technique.

Standouts include yellowtail with ginger, spring onion, sorrel and ponzu; fried shiitake dumplings with edamame, parmesan and shiso broth; and fried chuck-roll dumplings with coriander, sriracha and truffle mayonnaise. Beef sashimi comes with peanuts, fish sauce, pickled shallots and chili. The sushi selection runs from spicy tuna maki — tempura-fried with kimchi and avocado — to torched salmon maki with sambal mayonnaise and roasted garlic soy. A full sashimi plate offers twelve pieces from Barbro's rotating fish selection.

For larger groups, a set menu at 495 kr per person guides the table through a sequence of shared choices, from edamame and sea coral salad through dumplings, mains and maki rolls.

Worth the Tight Tables

The White Guide jury put it plainly: the well-crafted Asian small plates — especially the fried lamb dumplings with coriander and the yellowtail with sorrel — are worth sitting close for. The drinks list leans into the Asian theme with Hitachino Nest beers, yuzu sake, ume-shu and a Nikka whisky alongside a solid wine selection and a signature Espresso Martini made with vodka, shochu and Kahlúa.

Barbro is the kind of place that earns loyalty not through spectacle but through consistency — sharp flavours, a room that hums, and food that genuinely delivers.

White Guide — Fine level
