The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Fisherman's Table at the Edge of the Sea

Bryggvingen sits on Lyr, a small island southwest of Orust in Sweden's west coast archipelago, reachable by boat or daily ferry. The premise is as direct as it gets: Erik Lyräng is a fisherman first. His vessel, LL 97 Zenith, supplies the kitchen with whatever the sea gives up that day — lobster, sea crayfish, cod, and more — while a separate fish shop on site lets visitors take fresh catch home.

That single fact shapes everything about the experience. The fish and seafood on your plate were in the water very recently, and the kitchen treats them accordingly. Gratinated sea crayfish arrive with little more than a splash of garlic. Boiled cod is served with mashed potatoes, shrimp, horseradish, and butter. The cooking trusts the ingredient rather than obscuring it, and the result is exactly what a fish and seafood restaurant on a working harbour should be.

Erik Lyräng and the Spirit of the Place

The White Guide, which awarded Bryggvingen its Fine level recognition for 2026, describes Erik as restaurateur, bartender, and owner — but notes that it is his identity as a fisherman that makes this place genuinely different. Hospitality is listed as a guiding principle, and that comes through in a setting where boats line the winding pier in summer and the kitchen and view draw visitors well into the cooler months.

The island itself adds to the appeal. Grazed coastal pastures and archipelago landscapes make Lyr worth arriving early for — a couple of hours of walking before sitting down to a fish and seafood lunch or a longer evening dinner is a natural pairing.

What to Expect

Bryggvingen opens on weekends in spring and runs Tuesday through Sunday across the summer season. Beyond the restaurant, the fish shop is open daily for fresh purchases. The setting is relaxed and family-friendly, with outdoor seating, views across the water, and the kind of straightforward, honest cooking that comes from knowing exactly where the food was caught and by whom.

White Guide — Fine level

Erik Lyräng is a restaurateur, bartender, and owner, but above all he is a fisherman, and it is precisely that role that makes this restaurant special. It is he and his fishing boat LL 97 Zenith who ensure that guests can enjoy a lobster plate or a fish soup for lunch, during a longer dinner in the evening, or simply take home some fresh fish from the shop. The locally caught fish and the environment – here we sit in the lap of the sea! – is a very charming combination. Add to that the island of Lyr itself, southwest of Orust, with its archipelago settlement, grazed pastures, and coastal landscapes. Made for a couple of hours of beautiful walking before dinner. In summer, the boats line up along the winding pier. The kitchen and the view also attract plenty of visitors during the cooler parts of the year. Freshly caught doesn't need to be dressed up. The gratinated sea crayfish get just a splash of garlic, and the boiled cod is served with mashed potatoes, shrimp, horseradish, and butter. An excellent Burgundy to go with it, and we have everything we need.
