Skillinge Hamnkrog av två traktörer

Right on the quay in Skillinge, Ola Nilsson & Emilia Kaufmann Asp serve classic Swedish seafood – sole meunière, fried herring, moules-frites – with White Guide recognition.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Fish, Salt Air and a View of the Quay

Skillinge Hamnkrog av två traktörer sits right at the edge of the small-boat harbour in Skillinge, on the southeastern tip of Sweden's Österlen coast. The setting is as direct as the cooking: water within arm's reach, boats manoeuvring into their berths outside the window, and a menu built around whatever the sea offers that day.

The restaurant is run by the young inn-keeping couple Ola Nilsson and Emilia Kaufmann Asp, who took over with new energy and a freshly renovated kitchen – only to have the pandemic arrive almost immediately. They pushed through, and today guests line up in the evening sun for a table on the outdoor terrace, or angle for a window seat to watch the docking ballet in the harbour below.

Simple, Well-Cooked and Tasty

That phrase is the owners' own programme statement, and it shapes everything on the plate. Swedish classics anchor the menu: sole meunière, fried herring (sprat, to be precise – a distinction that matters on this stretch of coast), seafood platters and moules-frites. The kitchen also weaves in seasonal and rotating dishes inspired by what's available, and between the lunch and evening service the kitchen keeps things going with toast skagen and whole-fried plaice – a quiet nod to the fact that good harbour food doesn't need to stop between sittings.

The White Guide has recognised Skillinge Hamnkrog for delivering exactly what a quayside restaurant should: honest Swedish seafood cookery, executed with care and served in a setting that earns its place. The guide notes that the owners "fulfill it with gusto" – a fair summary of what regulars already know.

A Seasonal Harbour Rhythm

The restaurant opens in spring – around Easter – and runs through to December, with the full summer programme kicking in from July, when the kitchen is open every day. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace, and the space is available for private hire and catering year-round. It is the kind of place that rewards arriving without a fixed plan, sitting down close to the water, and letting the catch of the day decide what comes next.

White Guide — Recomended

The two tractors at Skillinge Hamnkrog had a rather miserable start. A summer with new resource‑rich owners, a new chef and a newly renovated kitchen – then the pandemic hit. Now the young inn‑keeping couple Ola Nilsson and Emilia Kaufmann Asp are back at full strength, and guests are lining up at a safe distance in the evening sun to indulge in seafood and other ocean delicacies. Classics such as sole meunière and fried herring (i.e., sprat for Stockholmers) are always on the menu, as are seafood platters and moules‑frites. This is exactly what one would expect from a restaurant located right on the quay of the small‑boat harbor. A window table or a sunny table on the outdoor terrace also offers prime seating to watch the art of docking a boat. Simple, well‑cooked, and tasty is the owners’ program statement, and they fulfill it with gusto. It’s easy to overlook that service can falter a bit under heavy load in the middle of summer.
