Jazzköket

Jazzköket in Östersund earned lasting love with honest food, zero-waste philosophy, and a playful menu praised by White Guide 2026.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

For nearly 14 years, Jazzköket occupied a warm, lively space on Prästgatan in Östersund, building a reputation that extended well beyond the city. Under restaurateur Kristoffer Andersson, the kitchen operated on a straightforward philosophy: honest food, a self-sufficient cycle where nothing is wasted, and a welcome that felt genuine regardless of the occasion or the size of your wallet.

A Space Where Everyone Belongs

The open kitchen, visible from the dining room, set the tone. Guests could pull up a stool at the relaxed kitchen counter and order something simple from the bar menu, or settle in for the four-course set menu of the day and let the kitchen surprise them. Both choices delivered the same standard: dishes that were tasty and carefully presented, always accompanied by a thorough description from the team. That consistency is precisely what White Guide recognised in its 2026 edition, awarding Jazzköket a "Very Fine Level" distinction and calling the menu "music to our taste buds."

What the Kitchen Sent Out

The food leaned on local and seasonal produce from the Jämtland region. A standout from the starters was the jazz sausage — a playful riff on a hot dog, made from quality pork and served with celeriac ketchup. Main courses showed the same balance of craft and restraint: rose fish fillet with algae, swede, and crown dill broth; Jämtland butcher's roast with greens roasted in a wood-fired oven. Creative vegetarian dishes were always part of the rotation, never an afterthought. Craft beers from small breweries and a well-chosen selection of natural wines rounded out the experience.

More Than One Room

Over the years, Jazzköket grew into a small constellation of spaces. Alongside the restaurant and its courtyard, the team opened Lagerbaren cocktail bar, Lilla Saluhallen, and eventually Verket, a bistro. Each addition shared the same ethos without diluting it.

A Chapter Closes

In March 2026, founders Hedda and Stoffe handed over the keys after nearly 14 years. A new chapter is beginning in the same premises under the name Morbror Fabian — a sign, perhaps, that the address itself has earned its place in Östersund's food culture.

White Guide — Very fine level

Led by restaurateur Kristoffer Andersson, the team behind Jazzköket deliver a playful menu that is music to our taste buds. In a warm, lively space where you can look straight into the kitchen, they continue developing and refining their concept, which is essentially about honest food and having a self-sufficient cycle where nothing is wasted. In addition to Jazzköket with its courtyard, the Lagerbaren cocktail bar, and Lilla Saluhallen, they’ve also opened Verket, a bistro. The familiar atmosphere has made Jazzköket Östersund’s lastingly most loved restaurant. Regardless of the occasion or the size of your wallet, you always feel welcome here – to sit by yourself at the relaxed kitchen counter and eat a simple meal from the bar menu, or let yourself be surprised by the four-course set menu of the day. Whichever you choose, you’ll be enchanted by the kitchen craftsmanship – tasty as well as pretty to look at, and always served with a thorough description. Don’t miss their starter version of a hot dog – a delightful jazz sausage made from posh pork and served with celeriac ketchup. Main courses such as the rose fish fillet with algae, swede and crown dill broth, or the Jämtland butcher’s roast with greens roasted in a wood-fired oven. Plus always creative vegetarian dishes. Craft beer from many small breweries and an impressive selection ofvins naturecomplement the whole.
