Ombergs Turisthotell

Seasonal Swedish cuisine made from organic and locally sourced ingredients, served with an unbeatable view over Lake Vättern and the Östgöta plain.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Perched above the beech forest on the slopes of Omberg, with a panoramic view stretching across Lake Vättern and the Östgöta plain, Ombergs Turisthotell is open year-round and draws guests from across Sweden for its food as much as its landscape. The hotel sits roughly halfway between Gothenburg and Stockholm, and between Jönköping and Linköping — a genuinely convenient destination that still feels removed from the everyday.

The kitchen's guiding principle is stated plainly: cook everything from scratch and create an experience where all the senses come alive. The team works exclusively with organic and locally sourced ingredients, following the seasons closely and drawing on the many skilled producers in the surrounding region. When ingredients must travel further — wines, for instance — the choice falls on small-scale producers who take environmental responsibility seriously. The result, as the White Guide recognised in its 2026 edition with a "Very fine level" rating, is Swedish cuisine with flavours that are rich and full-bodied, without ever feeling merely traditional.

A Kitchen That Moves with the Seasons

The restaurant runs several formats across the week. Fridays and Saturdays bring a five-course evening menu; other evenings offer four- and five-course options as well. On Saturdays and selected other days, a three-course lunch is available, and a hiking lunch can be booked any day of the week — a practical nod to the trails and natural landscape that surround the property.

The Place Itself

Behind the hotel are Jonas, Linda, Marcus, Pernilla and their team — a family-run operation with a personal, unhurried approach to hospitality. Guests can book the restaurant independently for lunch or dinner without staying overnight, or combine a meal with accommodation through one of the hotel's packages, which always include dinner, lodging and breakfast. The dining room also caters for private celebrations and conferences, and outdoor seating lets the view do its own quiet work.

The White Guide's note that the view over Lake Vättern is "unbeatable" is not hyperbole. It is, by most accounts, simply true — and it makes every plate of seasonal Swedish food served here feel like it belongs exactly where it is.
