The story
Since 2017, Mastio has been making pizza on its own terms — a deliberate mix of Italian tradition and Swedish sensibility, served at Dragörkajen in the small-boat harbor of Limhamn, just outside central Malmö. The tagline on the wall says it plainly: pizza utan kompromiss — pizza without compromise.
The driving force here is Sandra Mastio, whose personality is woven into every detail of the place. Her menu changes day by day, shaped by whatever she has harvested from her own garden. The result is a pizza list that reads like a seasonal diary rather than a fixed document — inventive, personal, and impossible to replicate on any other given evening. White Guide 2026 awarded Mastio its Fine level recognition, noting that "you can really hear Sandra's lively voice in the eclectic pizza menu on the board."
At the heart of the kitchen stands a huge, custom-built wood-fired oven. From it comes one item after another — bases that are fluffy and full of flavor, finished with generous amounts of pecorino. One combination singled out by White Guide: tomato sauce, mozzarella, and anchovies topped with tender ramps shoots — a trinity that speaks directly to the Swedish-Italian character of Mastio's pizza.
The space itself rewards lingering. When the boats are low at the quay, the outdoor terrace opens up a clear view over the harbor. Inside, a cozy mezzanine bar is filled with small personal touches that make the room feel genuinely inhabited rather than designed.
Mastio has since grown into a small family. Storasyster Mastio ("big sister") operates on Simrishamnsgatan in the Möllan neighborhood of Malmö, and Lillasyster Mastio runs as a food truck. Catering and private events are also available. But Dragörkajen remains the original — the place where Sandra's garden, the wood fire, and the harbor view all come together on a single plate of Swedish-inflected pizza.
