The story
Far i Hatten occupies a little red wooden cottage at the heart of Folkets Park, Malmö's beloved public park whose grand esplanade has drawn locals since the late 1800s. The setting shifts dramatically with the seasons: summer brings thirsty families and children onto a sprawling outdoor terrace, while winter turns the cottage into a warm refuge, its décor pitched somewhere between upmarket charity shop and circus. Couples, families, and regulars at the bar all share the same jovial room — and there is always something happening, from live bluegrass and country acts to DJ nights and art installations.
The kitchen's commitment is clear and consistent: seasonal ingredients sourced from local producers and farmers in Skåne, cooked with evident care and creativity. Wood-fired pizza is the anchor of the menu, available in gluten-free versions, with several options that can be made vegan. Alongside the pizzas, a selection of smaller plates — padrones with lemon, romesco with fried potatoes and buffalo mozzarella, Swedish sausages, and a rotating evening cheese — keeps things lively and shareable.
White Guide recognised Far i Hatten at a very fine level in 2026, singling out the kitchen's genuine love of cooking. Reviewers noted a white pizza topped with Skåne pumpkin and browned butter served with an enthusiastic explanation of how to use pumpkin at home, a nest of fried potatoes in a rich potato broth with creamy quail's eggs, and a memorable almond tart with caramel ice cream. The praise was specific: this is a place where tradition and modern gastronomy are merged with real conviction.
The bar is a destination in its own right, with an extensive list of vins naturels by the glass that drives intensive socialising well into the evening. The wine programme is taken seriously — events have included dedicated natural wine evenings with producers and importers, and the list regularly features skin-contact and amphora-aged bottles from small European producers.
Far i Hatten is cashless, open every day of the week, and welcomes everyone from children eating barnpizza to guests working their way through the wine list. It is, as White Guide put it, a place with a long and venerable history — in atmosphere, tradition, and cooking — that honours that history while remaining entirely of the present.
