A Mill Building That Earns Its Keep

Step through the door of Stångs Magasin and the city recedes. The White Guide describes the transition precisely: from the bustle of street traffic and the rumble of the railway bridge to the calm inside thick stone walls, deep window niches, and sturdy slanted beams running floor to ceiling. The mill building dates to 1805 and sits squarely on the quay of the Stång River — a setting that earned the restaurant its White Guide Fine level recognition for 2026.

The team here puts it plainly: "Vi vill att våra gäster ska få uppleva det vi passionerat tror på. Bra och vällagad mat." Good, well-made food. No elaboration needed.

A Place for Every Occasion

Stångs Magasin functions as a genuine meeting place — a lunch spot, a bar, a venue for a four-course evening menu, and a Saturday brunch destination. The kitchen leans into local and seasonal produce, with a clear focus on vegetables alongside meat and fish. A dedicated Bordet experience offers what the restaurant calls its "extra luxurious dinner experience," while the regular evening menu runs à la carte alongside set options.

The Winemaker's Dinner format gives a sense of the kitchen's ambitions: a recent evening paired Tuscan wines from Bolgheri and Montalcino with a menu built around pikeperch from Lake Glan with crayfish sauce and black kale, porcini with chicken liver and grapes, Östergötland fallow deer with potato croquette and chanterelle sauce, and a chocolate cake to close. Brunch on weekends and after-work sessions round out a week that rarely stands still.
