The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Kiruna's Kitchen, Open to Everyone

Spill Saluhall & Eatery describes itself simply as "Kirunas kök" – Kiruna's kitchen – and the attitude behind that phrase shapes everything about the place. Situated on Lastvägen 54, a short walk from the new Kiruna town center, the restaurant sits among builders and artisans in a setting that is deliberately unpretentious. The invitation is equally direct: don't dress up, come as you are, and stay as long as you like.

White Guide 2026 recognized Spill as exactly that – a very pleasant hangout for both vagabonds and locals, where the chefs work in an open kitchen preparing what the guide calls "hearty" food. The wood-fired pizza oven in the corner of that kitchen stays hot from afternoon through the evening, and it anchors the whole spirit of the room.

From Morning Coffee to Midnight

The day at Spill starts early and ends late. Breakfast and coffee open the doors, weekday lunches run from 10:00 to 14:00 with a daily buffet of at least two dishes plus soup, alongside bowls built on Japanese rice with mango, kimchi, pickled ginger and seaweed salad, and grilled focaccia toasts in several variations. On weekends, the kitchen pivots to a proper brunch buffet – the kind the restaurant itself calls "unnecessarily long" – with a deli counter stocked with cheese and charcuterie to take home.

Dinner, served from 17:00 to 22:00, is where the menu stretches out. Smaller plates like gratinated blue mussels with béchamel and Parmesan, or crispy fried Romanesco with roasted hazelnuts and lemon oil, sit alongside proper main courses: a Wallenbergare with green peas and lingonberry, fish and chips with grilled Caesar salad, a slow-cooked beef cheek pasta on pappardelle, and a sous vide beef tenderloin for those who want something more considered. The Philly Steak sandwich – made with suovas, the traditional Sámi smoked reindeer – grounds the menu firmly in northern Sweden. A Suovas burger with jalapeño cheese and chipotle mayonnaise makes the same point more casually.

Desserts come from the in-house bakery, which also supplies the bread served throughout the day.

A Place That Spills Over

The name is a deliberate pun: spill in Swedish can mean waste or overflow, and the restaurant leans into the idea that a good evening should spill from one thing into the next – a half-portion into a full dinner, a glass of something sparkling into a longer night. It is an all-day, every-day place that takes its food seriously without taking itself too seriously, and in a city that has literally been relocated piece by piece, that kind of steady, welcoming anchor matters.

UNNECESSARILY HIDDEN AMONG BUILDERS AND ARTISANS, BUT ONLY 300 METERS FROM THE NEW KIRUNA CENTER lies Spill Saluhall & Eatary. Yet there must be a reason behind it all, and the restaurant urges guests not to dress up unnecessarily but to come as they are. As Kiruna moves, the cozy restaurant Spis has undergone a metamorphosis and positioned itself a stone’s throw from the new town. A very pleasant hangout for both vagabonds and locals. In an open kitchen the chefs prepare “hearty” food. In the corner of the kitchen boasts a grand wood‑fired pizza oven that stays hot in the afternoon and evening.
