The story
Pull into the vast parking lot at Holy Smoke BBQ and you already know what kind of place this is. Drive past the greenhouses packed with chili plants, past the horse paddock, and follow the smell. What awaits is some of the most serious American BBQ in Sweden — a destination that has earned a White Guide recommendation and, frankly, earns it every service.
The setting in Nyhamnsläge, just outside Höganäs on the Bjäre coast, is as unpretentious as the food is accomplished. There are no airs here — just the honest business of low-and-slow cooking done right. The White Guide put it plainly: everything on the meat menu is worth trying, and the portions are made for sharing.
At the heart of Holy Smoke BBQ is the meat bar, where guests weigh their options — literally. The approach is classic American BBQ: generous cuts, proper smoke, and the kind of food that rewards a crowd. Bring people. Order widely. This is American cuisine at its most convivial, built around the table rather than the plate.
Holy Smoke BBQ is more than a restaurant. The academy offers cooking classes, grilling courses, and multi-day seminars for anyone who wants to understand the craft behind the smoke. There is also Heyday!, a summer event that has quietly become a tradition in its own right, now in its third year.
The restaurant operates seasonally, with full daily service running from midsummer through mid-August — the Swedish summer at its best, outdoors, with smoke in the air and no reason to rush.
