The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Where the archipelago comes to eat

A short walk along a gravel road from the quay, past the hardware store, and a black-painted wooden house appears through the greenery. Below it, boats rock at the guest quay and a handful of glamping tents catch the best view of the water. This is Svartsö Krog — at this point firmly counted among the classic Stockholm archipelago eateries, and a destination that draws visitors from across the region.

Getting here is part of the experience

For many guests, reaching Svartsö Krog is a day trip in itself. Some arrive on the archipelago boats that serve the island; others moor their own boats at the guest quay. A few stay overnight in the luxury tents of Svartsö Logi, just steps away. The restaurant is a stone's throw from the steamer jetty, which means the first glimpse of the terrace — and the bay beyond — tends to arrive just as the appetite does. A word of caution: book a table before you come. The staff will always try to sort something out, but this place fills up.

Simplicity as a guiding principle

The kitchen's philosophy is stated plainly: season, the best ingredients, the best producers. The menu changes constantly, driven by availability and the chef's inspiration. As the days grow shorter and autumn settles over the archipelago, flavours deepen accordingly. Alongside the à la carte and four-course menus, a good-value daily lunch offer includes salad and bread.

On a summer afternoon, a glass of rosé and a deliciously salty tarte flambée on the terrace overlooking the bay makes it easy to linger for hours — archipelago locals in clogs and city guests at dinner sharing the same unhurried pace. When the weather turns, the rough wooden floors and cosy bar indoors are just as welcoming.

The White Guide has recognised Svartsö Krog at both Fine and Very Fine levels in 2026, a reflection of how consistently this island restaurant delivers — not through ambition for its own sake, but through honest cooking rooted in where it sits.

White Guide — Very fine level

A couple of minutes' walk along a gravel road from the quay and the hardware store, and the black‑painted wooden house peeks through the greenery. Just below, the water sparkles alongside the boats at the guest quay, and a few glamping tents offer the best view. Rough wooden floors and a cozy bar beckon inside the restaurant, but when summer is at its peak it’s under the awnings on the spacious terrace, where the sun filters through the tree crowns and we gather: archipelago locals in clogs and sloppy shorts, and city‑dressed guests for dinner – all ages.

White Guide — Fine level

For many people, Svartsö Krog is a destination in itself. Many of the guests make a day trip of it on one of the archipelago boats that serve the island. Others moor their own boats, and yet others stay in the luxury tents that make up Svartsö Logi. If you haven’t booked a table before coming, you may end up without one – even if the staff always do their very best to ‘sort something out’. The restaurant, which at this point can be counted among the classic Stockholm archipelago eateries, is a stone’s throw from the steamer jetty. With a glass of rosé in your hand and a deliciously salty tarte flambée on your plate, it’s easy to linger for hours on the terrace overlooking the bay. If the weather turns less amenable it’s just as cosy to sit indoors or hang at the bar. The ingredients at the core of the menu are more or less local and seasonal, meaning that flavours get richer as the days grow shorter. Besides the à la carte, there’s a good-value lunch offer that changes daily, and includes salad and bread.
