The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Second Living Room on Skanstorget

Mestiza sits at Skanstorget 10, a short walk from the Linné and Haga neighbourhoods, and from the moment you step in, the intent is clear: this is a place built around the pleasure of eating together. Glimmering basket lamps hang from the ceiling, worn wooden tables are packed close, and the walls are lined with wine bottles and fine preserves. It is, as White Guide put it in awarding the restaurant its Fine level recognition, genuinely cosy — not as a marketing claim, but as a physical fact.

The Philosophy: Eat, Share, Enjoy

The name Mestiza means mixture, and the menu lives up to it. Small plates inspired by childhood memories and travels across the world arrive in waves to be shared at the table. South American inflections appear in a Pacific flounder ceviche with leche de tigre and camote, and in flavour combinations that feel fresher than the usual European tapas circuit. Mediterranean threads run through a burrata bruschetta with Kalamata olives and prosciutto, spicy shrimp gambas with garlic and olive oil, and a whole artichoke served with plum and brown butter — the kind of dish you pull apart with your fingers.

Dishes Worth Ordering

The signature polenta with orange-marinated lamb, citrus and herbs is marked as a house classic for good reason. The Tuna Caviar Delight — crispy croustades filled with tuna, mango, coriander, avocado, ponzu and chili, topped with caviar — shows how far the kitchen is willing to travel in a single bite. White Guide specifically called out the Iberico ham (don't let the price put you off) and the whole artichoke as unmissable. To finish, the Basque burnt cheesecake with caramelised crust, seasonal berries and raspberry coulis is the signature dessert, available whole for larger groups with 24 hours' notice.

The Room and the Wine

The wine list is carefully chosen — ranging from a mineral-driven German Riesling by the glass to a properly aged Haut-Médoc by the bottle — and the knowledge behind it, as White Guide noted with some amusement, is genuinely impressive. The crowd on any given evening is a reliable mix of food-focused regulars, young couples and groups of friends, filling every seat most nights of the week. The small plates format makes the evening interactive without being gimmicky, and the service earns consistent praise for being warm and engaged rather than performative. For a city with no shortage of good restaurants, Mestiza has earned its place among Göteborg's most recommended tables.

Gästen i fokus.
