The story
Manfred's Brasserie sits on Nordenskiöldsgatan in Gothenburg's popular Linné district, run by owners Fredrik and Daniél, both from the Alpine countries. That background shapes everything on the menu: the kitchen draws its heart from Austrian and Swiss cooking, with the kind of personal, informal warmth that only a true neighbourhood brasserie can pull off. The atmosphere is described by the restaurant itself as "trivsamt informell" – comfortably informal – with personal service and food of recognised quality at reasonable prices.
The White Guide, in awarding Manfred's its Fine level recognition for 2026, singled out something deceptively straightforward: the schnitzel. "It seems so simple. Pound, bread, and fry a piece of meat. It appears on hundreds of menus and has been around for a hundred years. Yet almost no one gets it right. Manfred's brasserie is one of the few brilliant exceptions. And how they shine." For a dish this elemental, that kind of praise says everything. The genuine Wiener schnitzel – along with Cordon Bleu – anchors the lunch menu, served Monday through Friday without reservations, drop-in only.
The menu doesn't stop at Alpine staples. Weekly specials push into broader territory: dishes like orange and pepper-seared beef tenderloin with Parma-wrapped white asparagus, Karl Johan mushrooms and a buttered cognac sauce, or the catch of the day with sautéed tomato, scampi, fried padrón peppers and saffron arancini show a kitchen comfortable moving between registers. Sunday menus lean international, while the wine list, like the à la carte, keeps its centre of gravity in the elegance of Alpine cooking. Desserts such as white chocolate mousse mille-feuille with candied pistachios and a rhubarb-blueberry compote, or a warm chocolate fondant with orange and vanilla ice cream, round things out with the same unfussy confidence.
Manfred's serves lunch and dinner through the week, with takeaway also available – making it a genuine all-day resource for the neighbourhood. The tone set by Fredrik, Daniél and their team is one of genuine hospitality rather than performance, exactly what a brasserie should be.
