Celebrated table

En liten sjökrog

A glass-walled summer tavern on the Swedish coast, 50 km south of Sundsvall. Sea views, Norröna herring, and honest cooking by the water.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Small Tavern with a Big View

Perched at Klasudden on the shores of Sörfjärden, En liten sjökrog earns its reputation simply by doing what few restaurants manage: giving every single guest an unobstructed view of the sea. The dining room is essentially glass on all sides — a greenhouse effect that floods the space with coastal light and keeps the horizon close no matter where you sit.

The drive out along winding roads is part of the experience. Families, children, summer visitors, and loyal regulars from the surrounding coast all make their way here during the short Swedish summer, and the result is exactly the kind of cheerful, warm hum that a waterfront spot should have. White Guide, which has recognised En liten sjökrog in its 2026 edition, captures it well: the atmosphere is genuinely welcoming rather than performative.

What Comes to the Table

The kitchen leans into the sea and its surroundings. The large, soft Norröna herring arrives as a starter — flavourful and unhurried, the kind of dish that reminds you why focus-on-fish cooking matters in this part of Sweden. Mains might bring a well-handled piece of cod with thoughtful sides, or a ribeye steak accompanied by what the menu calls pommes Gnarp — a nod to the postal address that doubles as a quiet piece of local humour.

The People Behind It

Innkeepers Agneta Hedman and Annika Höglund run a restaurant in Sundsvall through the rest of the year. Come summer, they relocate entirely to Sörfjärden and this small waterfront tavern becomes their full focus. That seasonal dedication shows — the place has the feel of something cared for, not merely opened.

Summer is short on this stretch of the Swedish coast, and as White Guide notes, for anyone who considers themselves a local, at least one visit is simply a must.

Few restaurants can offer sea views to all guests, but a small waterfront tavern can. Children, large families, and all‑kind summer visitors make their way along winding roads to the sea and Sörfjärden during the summer. A cheerful hum greets you as you step into the restaurant, which evokes a greenhouse—everything except the roof is glass. The large, soft, flavorful Norröna herring appears as a delightful starter. For the main course you might get a nice piece of cod with sides, or a ribeye steak with pommes Gnarp (according to the postal address). Summer is short, and for “the locals” at least one visit to the tavern is a must. The innkeepers Agneta Hedman and Annika Höglund run a small tavern in Sundsvall for the rest of the year.
