That is Brasserie Bardot's own quiet boast — "Frankrike är aldrig längre bort än Andra Tvärgatan 3" — and it sets the tone perfectly. This French brasserie sits in one of Gävle's most unexpectedly charming corners: Ahlgrens Torg in the Brynäs district, the former home of the candy factory that once made Sweden's best-selling confection. Parts of the original industrial buildings have been preserved and woven into a new urban square, now framed by residences, a small market hall, and outdoor cafés bathed in evening sun. The iconic neon-green Läkerol sign still glows over the piazza, giving the whole setting a cinematic quality that suits a restaurant named after Brigitte Bardot rather well.

A neighbourhood worth the detour

White Guide recognised Brasserie Bardot at Fine level in its 2026 edition — notable recognition for a restaurant in a city that is itself undergoing a quiet renaissance. The guide's own description of the surroundings captures something important: this is not a destination that trades on heritage for nostalgia's sake, but one that belongs to a genuinely new chapter for Brynäs. Sitting on the terrace with the old factory walls nearby, you are inside a story that is still being written.

The brasserie experience

The format is classic and unambiguous: a French brasserie, evening service, Monday through Saturday. The outdoor seating makes the most of the square's atmosphere when the Gävle summer allows it. The menu and kitchen details are kept close to the chest on the restaurant's own pages, but the positioning is clear — this is a place that takes the brasserie tradition seriously enough to stake its identity on it, in a city where that kind of specificity stands out.
