The story
There are restaurants that feel immediately right the moment you walk in. Banken Bar & Brasserie on Åsgatan in Falun is one of them. Red sofas, mirrors that seem to catch every conversation, and lamps hung just high enough to cast a warm, slightly theatrical glow — the room has a Parisian brasserie energy that is rare this far north. Tables are packed close, the noise level is cheerful rather than chaotic, and the service moves with the kind of friendly efficiency that keeps things feeling alive.
White Guide recognised Banken Bar & Brasserie at Fine level in 2026, singling out precisely this atmosphere alongside the kitchen's commitment to braising classic stews with care and technique. It is the sort of recognition that confirms what regulars already know: this place takes the brasserie format seriously.
Banken Bar & Brasserie sits at the centre of a small group of complementary ventures run from the same address. Restaurateur Ingemar Eberstål and sommelier Eva Eberstål lead the operation, with Magnus Wadell overseeing the restaurant floor. Next door, Butik Banken stocks quality ingredients, charcuterie, fish, seafood and olive oils — a retail extension of the same philosophy. A few streets away, Banken Två rum & kök offers a more intimate fine dining experience.
The brasserie itself covers lunch, à la carte dinner, catering and events, as well as takeaway — making it a genuine all-day anchor for the city. The lunch menu runs Monday through Friday, and the kitchen is open into the evening most days of the week.
The promise here is straightforward: well-made food drawn from classic brasserie cooking, served in a room that rewards lingering. Whether you arrive for a weekday lunch or settle in for a longer dinner, the atmosphere — noisy, cozy, genuinely convivial — does most of the work. The cooking, rooted in the kind of slow-braised, technically honest brasserie tradition that White Guide's reviewers noted with approval, does the rest.
