The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Small Room with a Clear Philosophy

On the little street behind Åre's main square, Torggränd 2b, sits Imilla — a room of barely 20 seats, a bar, a stylish sofa, and two chefs who do everything themselves. They shake the drinks, pour the wine, cook the food, and look after the guests. That self-imposed intimacy is not a limitation; it is the whole point.

Imilla opened shortly before Christmas 2020, and the White Guide has since recognised it at Fine level — a distinction that reflects exactly what the restaurant is: focused, personal, and quietly serious about quality.

The Food

The philosophy here is stated with refreshing directness: food should just be bloody good, without pretension. The team — Andréas, Jesper, Tobias, Victor and Oskar — cook what they themselves want to eat, drawing freely from Swedish produce and technique without locking themselves to any single tradition or rulebook.

Vegetables and root vegetables take centre stage, though butter, meat and fish are loved in equal measure. Vegetarian options are always available, and guests with vegan or dairy-protein allergies are asked to flag this before their visit.

In the dining room, every booked guest sits down to the same short, opinionated tasting format: around six courses for 675 SEK. The menu shifts day to day, but there is a recognisable thread running through each visit. Drinks packages range from an alcohol-free option at 500 SEK to a champagne-led selection at 1 200 SEK; single glasses are equally welcome.

The bar operates on walk-in terms only — a place to drop in for a snack, a main course, a dessert, or just a glass of something good.

Lunch and Private Hire

Tuesday through Friday, from noon until mid-afternoon, Imilla runs a stripped-back lunch: a changing stew served with mashed potato. The potato purée, the team notes, is non-negotiable. No booking needed unless you are a larger group.

The entire restaurant can also be hired privately — for twelve to twenty guests — for celebrations, corporate occasions, or any evening worth marking. The chefs come with it.

The Feeling

The ambition at Imilla is to feel like arriving at someone's home. That warmth, combined with the kind of careful Swedish cooking that earns serious critical attention, makes this small address in the mountains worth planning around.

Imilla opened shortly before Christmas 2020 in the small premises on the little street behind the square. It houses a stylish sofa, a bar suitable for sitting, and a dining room with a modest 20 seats. It turns out to be just right for two chefs who want to do everything themselves: shaking drinks, pouring wine, cooking, and dealing with guests.
