The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Charming Farm Estate Near the Sea

Kastanjelunds Wärdshus sits in the small village of Yngsjö, close to the long sandy beaches of Hanöbukten in south-east Skåne. The setting is a characterful three-winged farm estate dating from the early 1900s, where the main building houses the restaurant and reception, and the two wings offer comfortable guest rooms. Forest, heath and sea are all within easy reach — a backdrop that quietly shapes everything on the plate.

The Hosts and Their Kitchen

Innkeepers Marinette and David Nordal run Kastanjelunds Wärdshus with a clear philosophy: work with nearby farms and growers, let the season decide the menu, and prepare everything with care. There is no rigid fixed menu — instead, the kitchen follows what the season offers in vegetables, meat, fish and game. That approach has earned the restaurant recognition from White Guide, which singles out the cooking for its confident blend of traditional Swedish cuisine and modern sensibility.

The guide's reviewers were struck by a smoked wild duck from Vittskövle, served with black salsify, carrot and mushroom, and by a main course of fallow deer — remarkably tender — paired with beetroot, Jerusalem artichoke purée, chanterelles and spelt cabbage. The wine list is described as exquisitely balanced, pairing dishes with bottles such as a Wine & Soul Manoella from Douro, Portugal.

Beyond the Dining Room

The estate offers more than dinner. Guests can combine a stay with spa access — a sauna, warm-water pool and relaxation space — or join one of the multi-day foodie walking packages that link Kastanjelund with two other celebrated food destinations across the Skåneleden trail. The walks cover between 40 and 60 kilometres of forest, heathland and coastline, with luggage transferred between stops and a seasonal Swedish cuisine menu waiting each evening.

For those who simply want to linger, the estate also hosts conferences, private parties and seasonal dinners — the goose dinner and Christmas table are recurring highlights on the calendar.
