Fratelli Figurato – Pizzeria

Award-winning Neapolitan pizza in Madrid's Chamberí district. Fratelli Figurato earns Gambero Rosso recognition for its southern Italian recipes and artisan ingredients.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The motto at Fratelli Figurato is Benvenuti a casa nostra — welcome to our home — and the menu makes that warmth tangible. This Chamberí pizzeria earned 2 Slices from Gambero Rosso in 2023, the Italian food bible's recognition that the Neapolitan pizza here is the real thing, not a Madrid approximation of it.

The Pizza

The dough is the foundation, and the Figurato team builds on it with ingredients sourced from southern Italy's most protected appellations. The Margherite section alone tells you something about the kitchen's priorities: La Cosacca alla Vesuviana uses pomodorini del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP — one of the oldest recipes in the Neapolitan canon — while O' Marenariell pairs San Marzano del Vesuvio tomatoes with Cantabrian anchovies and wild oregano from Calabria.

Several pizzas carry the "Solo dai Figurato" label, meaning you won't find them elsewhere. The Amatrice al Sole reworks the classic with roasted San Marzano tomatoes and Roman guanciale for a fresher result. La Merendina di Nonna — stretched thin, baked slowly like a focaccia, then finished with mortadella di Bologna and provolone di Puglia — is described as the pizza their grandmother used to make. Two seasonal specials, L'Estate al Sud and La Parmigiana di Melanzane, rotate in with fried aubergines, Sicilian datterini cherry tomatoes, and smoked provola.

The Slow Food–certified ingredients appear across the menu: Antichi Pomodori di Napoli, salsiccia pezzente della Montagna Materana, Caciocavallo Silano DOP, and Salella ammaccata del Cilento all feature on the Anda voa 10 all'ora, one of the more ingredient-dense options on the list.

Beyond the Pizza

Fratelli Figurato operates as more than a single-format restaurant. The Trattoria Popolare — a separate concept under the same name — leans into the broader southern Italian table: house-made porchetta slow-roasted with rosemary, fennel and garlic; lombrichelli with Amatriciana; gnocchi di ricotta di bufala in a long-cooked Neapolitan ragù; ziti alla Genovese with slow-braised meat and onion; and ravioli capresi filled with semi-cured sheep's ricotta and marjoram, dressed with Sicilian datterini. The antipasto della casa — a rotating mix of seasonal vegetables, artisan cheeses and cured meats — changes with the market and the season.

Desserts stay true to the south: tiramisù della mamma, Caprese al cioccolato, Sicilian cannoli, and a Gelato Tartufo di Pizzo Calabro that can be served affogato al caffé or affogato al liquore.

The Setting

The pizzeria on Calle de Alonso Cano 37 offers outdoor seating and a private room alongside table service, with delivery and takeaway also available — a full-service neighbourhood address that takes its Neapolitan pizza seriously enough to earn international recognition for it.
