The story
Opened in December 2014, Disfrutar — Spanish for "Enjoy" — is the culmination of a lifelong culinary obsession shared by three extraordinary chefs: Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casañas. Their paths first crossed at the legendary elBulli, where they trained and honed their craft through years of intense creative work. After co-founding Compartir in Cadaqués in 2012, the trio set their sights on Barcelona, where Disfrutar was born.
Nestled in the vibrant Eixample neighbourhood, directly opposite the iconic Ninot Market, the restaurant's interior is a design journey in itself. Ceramic is the unifying thread throughout: the entrance pays homage to Barcelona through the wrought iron of the Ninot Market and the vivid palette of Mironian ceramics; a central ceramic-clad corridor weaves past a fully open kitchen; and the main dining room — luminous, white, and serene — evokes the spirit of a Mediterranean fishing village. A terrace completes the picture, offering a quiet nod to the team's roots in Cadaqués. The result is an atmosphere at once intimate and transporting.
At the heart of Disfrutar lies a bold, avant-garde Mediterranean cuisine where surprise is considered an essential ingredient. The chefs advise guests to experience the tasting menu without previewing the dishes — trusting in the journey. Two menus are on offer: the Menu Disfrutar Classic (€315), celebrating the restaurant's most beloved creations, and the Menu Disfrutar Festival (€315), showcasing the season's latest inventions. A curated wine pairing (€170), assembled by the in-house sommelier team, completes the experience.
For those seeking something truly singular, the Living Table Experience — a collaboration with designer Merche Alcalá of MA Design Studio — takes place in the R&D kitchen on the lower floor, where the table itself becomes part of the Mediterranean cuisine narrative.
Disfrutar's creative vision has earned it the highest accolades in global gastronomy. In 2024, it claimed the No. 1 position at The World's 50 Best Restaurants, having previously ranked 2nd in 2023, 3rd in 2022, and 5th in 2021. The restaurant also holds Three Stars in the Michelin Guide 2024, Three Soles in the Repsol Guide (since 2018), the National Gastronomy Award for Best Head Chef 2023, and recognition from The Best Chef Awards since 2019 — a testament to a Mediterranean cuisine that continues to define the global vanguard.
