The story
Yu Yuan draws its inspiration from the golden era of Shanghai's swinging 1920s, channelling that particular grandeur into one of Seoul's most decorated dining rooms. Set within the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul on Saemunan-ro, the restaurant has held a Michelin star across multiple editions of the MICHELIN Guide Seoul and Busan — including the 2025 and 2026 guides — and earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in 2023, a mark of the seriousness brought to both the kitchen and the cellar.
At the centre of it all is Head Chef To Kwok Wai, born and raised in Hong Kong, who began his career at fifteen surrounded by the flavours and heritage of Cantonese cuisine. His trajectory through luxury resorts and Michelin-starred establishments around the world has shaped a cooking philosophy rooted in preservation and precision. In his own words: "My dishes are a culinary narrative that reflect not only my personal journey but also the rich tapestry of flavours that I've encountered along the way."
Alongside him, Dim Sum Chef Qing Bing Wu brings more than two decades of expertise to the table — a craft that began in a family of chefs, was formalised through training in Beijing, and was refined under some of the region's most respected culinary figures. His guiding principle: "The essence of dim sum lies in the quality of its ingredients and the creation of a welcoming atmosphere."
The menu is grounded in local, seasonal ingredients presented through the lens of authentic Cantonese technique. Signature highlights include Traditional Beijing Duck served with condiments, Steamed Live Abalone with glass noodles and garlic sauce, and the Chef's Taste of Harmony — a signature course menu that shifts with the seasons. For a focused introduction to the kitchen's range, the Essence Degustation brings together seven signature Cantonese dishes celebrating the restaurant's latest Michelin star.
Lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch are all offered, with private dining rooms available for smaller or more intimate gatherings. The dress code is smart casual, and the room welcomes guests aged seven and above — a considered touch that keeps the atmosphere refined without being exclusive.
