The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Table Rooted in Island History

The Terrace Restaurant sits within StolenTime, a beachfront resort on Malabar Beach in Castries that carries more than half a century of family history. The property was originally the private home of Denis Barnard, a St. Lucian entrepreneur whose family arrived on the island in the early 1800s. Denis had a habit of inviting passing tourists in for lunch or dinner — served by his butler Lionel — only for guests to discover, when asking for the bill, that they were sitting in someone's private house. That spirit of generous, unhurried hospitality still shapes the way the resort feeds its guests today.

The Setting and the Kitchen

The Terrace is one of several dining venues at StolenTime, alongside the Malabar Beach Club and Thyme, each offering a different register of the resort's Caribbean and European cooking. The resort's wine programme earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2023, a mark of the seriousness with which the cellar is curated and matched to the food on the plate.

In the kitchen, Chef Peter Juma brings 26 years of resort cooking across Kenya, Dubai and Saint Lucia. He joined the Rendezvous team in 2001 and has been a constant presence since. The menu draws on Caribbean produce and technique while reaching into European and Italian traditions — a range reflected in dishes shared through the resort's food blog: salmon roulade, lamb shank with golden apples, stuffed eggplant with pumpkin rice and tomato salsa, poached egg with asparagus and prosciutto.

Atmosphere and Approach

StolenTime describes its philosophy as combining "health with holiday" — and the dining experience follows that logic. The food is ingredient-led and mindful without being restrictive, with options for vegan and vegetarian guests alongside more indulgent plates. Wine pairing, a chef's table, and small plates round out what is available across the resort's dining spaces.

The Barnard family — who also founded the distillery at Dennery, producer of Bounty Rum and Chairman's Reserve — have run this property for generations. That continuity gives The Terrace something that is difficult to manufacture: a sense of place that goes well beyond the view of the Caribbean Sea.
