The story
Il Gattopardo sits within the Dom Pedro Lisboa hotel on Avenida Eng. Duarte Pacheco, bringing a focused, confident Italian kitchen to the Portuguese capital. Its name and menu card draw inspiration from Visconti's iconic film — the restaurant even borrows the novel's most famous line: "Se vogliamo che tutto rimanga come è, bisogna che tutto cambi" — a quiet nod to tradition that must keep reinventing itself to survive.
The kitchen is led by Chef Leandro Stenzel, whose approach to Mediterranean cuisine is grounded in fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local suppliers and producers. Shortening supply chains is a deliberate choice here — one that keeps the cooking both honest and more sustainable. The result is a menu that moves between fresh handmade pasta, carefully prepared meat and fish dishes, and the kind of Italian flavours that feel neither forced nor nostalgic.
Recognition has followed: Gambero Rosso, the authoritative Italian food and wine guide, awarded Il Gattopardo a fork — a meaningful distinction for an Italian restaurant operating outside Italy, and a marker of genuine quality in the Mediterranean cuisine it serves.
The dining room seats up to 70 guests, while a covered terrace adds 50 more places and an open terrace a further 20 — all with views over Lisbon. It is the kind of setting where a weekday lunch feels like a proper occasion without demanding one.
On weekdays, Chef Stenzel composes a rotating lunch menu: a starter and main, or main and dessert, at €30 per person; the full three-course version is priced at €35. It is a straightforward, well-considered offer — good Mediterranean cuisine at a pace that suits the middle of a working day.
