The story
A few steps from Pszczyna's Market Square stands Wodna Wieża – the city's historic water tower, now reimagined as a boutique destination. On its penultimate floor (Level 8), Restauracja Steampunk occupies interiors inspired by the Golden Age of Travel, where Victorian-era details and a sense of occasion set the stage for one of southern Poland's most considered fine dining experiences. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, earned in 2025, speaks to the seriousness of what happens here – both on the plate and in the glass.
Head Chef Ziemowit Owczarz leads a team whose stated philosophy is precise: "minimalism in form meets richness and purity of flavour." The product is the star; technique serves the flavour rather than announcing itself. The menu draws on global influences – European, Japanese and Scandinavian threads run through the cooking – while remaining firmly anchored in Polish seasonality. Every visit is, in the kitchen's own words, "a celebration of the moment."
Steampunk offers two formats. The tasting menu comes in two versions, each progressing from starters through to desserts in a coherent arc that reflects both the season and the Chef's current vision. Guests who prefer to compose their own evening can order à la carte, with the same attention to quality and detail maintained throughout.
For groups of six to ten, the exclusive Chef's Table on Level 7 provides maximum privacy and dedicated service, with tasting menus only – the restaurant describes it as their "captain's table," suited to significant business dinners or family celebrations. Advance phone reservation is required.
The sommelier selects wines for each course of the tasting menu from small, often family-owned vineyards, chosen for their authenticity and regional character. The Wine Spectator recognition affirms what the team has built: a beverage programme that genuinely enhances the food rather than simply accompanying it. Premium spirits, served neat or in cocktails inspired by the world's best bars, round out the offering.
Steampunk sits within the wider Wodna Wieża complex, which also houses Tickets Bistro & Wine, boutique apartments and a spa. Guests can arrive for dinner, stay the night and wake to breakfast downstairs – a self-contained experience in a building that has become Pszczyna's most distinctive address.
