The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Love Story That Changed Peruvian Cooking

Astrid y Gastón began exactly as its name suggests: two people, one shared dream. Astrid and Gastón met in Paris while studying cooking, fell in love, and returned to Lima to open their own restaurant together in 1994. Their first home was a traditional casona on Calle Cantuarias in Miraflores. Thirty years later, the restaurant operates from Casa Hacienda Moreyra in San Isidro — a colonial estate whose history of celebrations stretches back to Peruvian independence.

That longevity is not accidental. The World's 50 Best Restaurants has ranked Astrid y Gastón continuously from 2011 through 2018, reaching as high as #14 in both 2013 and 2015 — a sustained level of global recognition that few restaurants in Latin America have matched.

The Food: Peru Through Its Own Ingredients

The kitchen's proposition is rooted in travel across Peru — its regions, its producers, its raw materials — filtered through a contemporary lens. As the restaurant describes it: "Una visión contemporánea de nuestra cocina que agradece su historia y que apuesta por la creatividad en todas sus formas." A contemporary vision that honours history and bets on creativity in every form.

The menu moves between a full à la carte and a tasting menu, with Astrid's desserts treated as a dedicated chapter of their own — a nod to the pastry training that was part of the restaurant's founding story. The wine list is serious and wide-ranging, drawing on Burgundy, Barolo, Rioja, and a selection of South American bottles, with wines available by the glass as well.

The Setting

Casa Hacienda Moreyra gives the restaurant a physical presence unlike most dining rooms in Lima. The grounds include an enclosed garden, a chapel, and a sequence of private salons — the intimate Salón San Isidro for up to ten guests, the Salón de los Espejos for twenty, and the Gran Salón Rosado for up to fifty. The garden can accommodate outdoor events for up to a hundred people, and the entire estate can be reserved for weddings or corporate events for up to 300. The same kitchen team handles private events with the same standards as the main dining room.

A small shop on-site offers Astrid's chocolates and other keepsakes — a quiet way to extend the experience beyond the table.

Why It Matters

Astrid y Gastón is not simply a restaurant that has won awards. It is the place that helped establish Lima as a destination for serious contemporary Peruvian food at a global level, and it has done so by staying close to its founding idea: two people, a shared craft, and an honest relationship with the ingredients and traditions of Peru.
