The story
Re-Naa sits on the ground floor of Eilert Smith Hotel at Nordbøgata 8, a short walk from Stavanger's working harbour. Step out of a taxi and you are greeted before you reach the door — sheltered by an umbrella, with a giant offshore service vessel visible on the water behind you and the warm tones of wood and brass ahead. That contrast, industrial scale outside and quiet precision within, sets the mood exactly right.
The restaurant is built around two people. Sven Erik Renaa runs the kitchen, and his cooking is rooted in what he calls a "coastal kitchen": seafood drawn from Rogaland and the surrounding coastline, shaped by fermentation, curing, and the discipline that long Scandinavian winters impose on a larder. Torill Renaa provides what the restaurant itself describes as "the warmth, the rhythm, the calm" — the hospitality counterpart to the kitchen's rigour. Together they have earned three Michelin stars, a distinction that places Re-Naa among a very small number of restaurants in the Nordic countries.
The White Guide, in its 2026 edition, called Re-Naa a "beacon of the west" — recognition that the restaurant's influence extends well beyond Stavanger.
A single tasting menu, priced at NOK 4,500 per guest, changes with the seasons and with whatever produce is best on a given day. The menu is primarily seafood-based; the kitchen is transparent about what it cannot adapt to, which is itself a mark of confidence. Wine pairings range from an approachable "Unique & Honest" selection at NOK 2,750 to a "Fine & Classic" option at NOK 7,500, curated by the sommelier team. A non-alcoholic pairing is also available.
The dining room is deliberately intimate. In Sven Erik Renaa's own framing, the distance between guest and kitchen is minimal — every seat functions as a chef's table. For groups of up to eight, the main room accommodates; larger parties can book a private dining room.
