The story
At VIN Tjuvholmen, the wine comes first — and everything else follows. Situated at Lille Stranden 4 on Oslo's Tjuvholmen peninsula, this is a place where the list runs deep: over 100 wines available by the glass and thousands of bottles to choose from. That breadth and seriousness earned VIN Tjuvholmen a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2025, one of the wine world's most recognised distinctions for restaurants maintaining exceptional cellar programmes.
The food is designed to serve the wine, not compete with it. The kitchen turns out focused European plates — cheese and charcuterie, pâté, lobster soup — simple in form but chosen to complement whatever is in the glass. It's a French-inflected sensibility applied with a light hand: the kind of eating that makes a second bottle feel inevitable.
Tjuvholmen is one of Oslo's most distinctive neighbourhoods, a former shipyard redeveloped into galleries, waterside promenades and design-forward architecture. VIN Tjuvholmen fits the surroundings without trying to outshine them. Outdoor seating means guests can take in the harbour on warmer evenings, while inside the atmosphere stays convivial rather than formal — a bar in the best sense of the word.
VIN also operates a second location in Bjørvika, near the Opera House, but Tjuvholmen carries its own character and its own Wine Spectator recognition. For anyone serious about European wine in Oslo, this is a natural stop.
