The story
Vesuvio Pizzeria was founded on 1 June 2016 by Francesco Solimeo with a clear ambition: to bring genuine Italian food culture to Oslo. What started as a single address has grown to four locations across the city — Bislett, St. Hanshaugen, Youngstorget and Aker Brygge — each carrying the same commitment to quality that earned the pizzeria recognition from Gambero Rosso, Italy's most authoritative food and wine guide.
The foundation of everything at Vesuvio is the pizza itself. Dough is made by hand, toppings are sourced fresh, and every pie goes into a stone oven — the method that defines true Neapolitan pizza. Guests have noted the authenticity of the marinara, praised for its proper use of anchovies, capers and olives, and one reviewer summed up the experience simply: "This restaurant could just as well be in the middle of Naples." Gluten-free options are available and, by all accounts, executed with the same care.
Vesuvio describes itself as a place that gathers people around the table, and the room reflects that. Small, warm and deliberately unhurried, the restaurants are staffed by a team the owners openly invest in — the philosophy being that a happy, supported team creates exceptional experiences for guests. Reviewers consistently mention attentive, passionate service alongside the food.
Beyond the dining room, Vesuvio offers hands-on pizza courses for all skill levels, teaching the craft behind authentic Neapolitan pizza in a way that guests can take home. Catering and takeaway are also available, extending the kitchen's reach to events and private occasions.
A Gambero Rosso slice award in 2026 places Vesuvio among a select group of pizzerias outside Italy that the guide deems worth seeking out — meaningful recognition for a restaurant that has never wavered from its original standard.
