The story
Skur 33 sits on Akershusstranda 11, right along Oslo's inner harbour, in what the name gives away immediately: a former quayside warehouse. The setting is as straightforward as it is striking – water on one side, the old stone walls of Akershus Fortress on the other. The terrace, open through the warmer months on a drop-in basis only, is one of the most sought-after outdoor tables in the city.
The restaurant calls itself a Trattoria Di Mare – a seaside trattoria – and the menu lives up to that description honestly. Every day the kitchen produces fresh pasta and pizzas baked in a wood-fired Valoriani oven, while fish and shellfish from the grill stand as one of the house specialities. The menu rotates with the seasons, so what arrives on the plate reflects what is actually good right now rather than a fixed repertoire. It is Italian coastal cooking, grounded and unfussy, served in a harbour setting that feels entirely natural for it.
Inside, a chambre separée accommodates private groups of up to 50 guests, and the entire venue – terrace included – can be hired for events. For everyday dining, the outdoor terrace runs on walk-ins only, no exceptions for larger groups or parties. It is a deliberate choice that keeps the atmosphere relaxed and spontaneous rather than over-managed.
Gambero Rosso, the authoritative Italian food and wine guide, awarded Skur 33 a fork in its 2024 edition – a meaningful nod from a guide whose focus on Italian cuisine makes the recognition particularly fitting for a trattoria operating this far north.
