Celebrated table

Hot Shop

Hot Shop brings Oslo's sharpest semi-fine dining to a former sex shop. Chef Jo Bøe Klakegg and Siri Haslund run one of the city's most talked-about tables.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The Place

Hot Shop occupies a former sex shop at Københavngata 18 — same name, same address, entirely different proposition. Where saucy videotapes once lined the shelves, owners Siri Haslund and Chef Jo Bøe Klakegg now serve some of Oslo's cleanest, most considered food. The transformation is part of a broader shift in the city toward informal restaurants that offer serious cooking in locations well beyond the polished city centre.

The People Behind It

Jo Bøe Klakegg came up through Fauna, a restaurant defined by precision and technique — tweezers, powders, the works. Hot Shop is a deliberate departure. The goal here, as the White Guide put it in awarding the restaurant Masters level recognition in 2026, is something more personal: an everyday place that works equally well for a grand celebration or a casual late-night bite. Co-owner Siri Haslund brings that same ethos to the front of house, and together they have built something that feels genuinely theirs.

The Food

The kitchen offers a set food menu at 1,595 NOK, with a wine pairing available at 1,295 NOK. Adjustments are made for allergies, pescetarians and vegetarians — the format is fixed, but the approach is not rigid. What comes out of the kitchen is described simply as clean food, which, given Klakegg's background, means precision without the fuss.

Why It Matters

Hot Shop sits at the centre of Oslo's semi-fine dining conversation — a scene the White Guide traces back to the now-defunct Pjoltergeist. The recognition at Masters level confirms that the informality here is a considered choice, not a compromise. It is a restaurant that takes the cooking seriously while letting the room breathe.

History

On the record

2026
White Guide — Masters level

Hot Shop is the latest addition to Oslo’s semi-fine dining scene, a trend started by White Guide favorite, and now sadly defunct Pjoltergeist; informal restaurants offering high quality fare in fringe locations beyond the city center. Yes, Hot Shop was very much what you think it might at one point have been; a sex shop. Same name, same place just less tawdry. Where once saucy videotapes were the titillation du jour, you now find some of Oslo’s cleanest food. Owners Siri Haslund and Jo Bøe Klakegg have succeeded in creating their personal idea of what an everyday place should be; ideal for both grand celebrations and a casual late-night bite. If Chef Jo’s previous restaurant project, Fauna, was all about tweezers and powders, Hot Shop is less futzy.
