Cru

French-technique cooking with Norwegian ingredients, one of Oslo's largest wine lists, and a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

French Technique, Norwegian Ingredients, Bjørvika Address

Cru sits in the Sixa building on Dronning Eufemias gate, right in the heart of Oslo's vibrant Bjørvika district. The kitchen works from a straightforward premise: Norwegian produce prepared with French technique. The result is a neighbourhood restaurant with genuine ambition — the kind of place that earns a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence without feeling like it's trying too hard.

What's on the Plate

The current five-course menu reads as a confident statement of what Cru does well. Telemark char arrives with green asparagus, cucumber, dill and a Røros sour cream sauce. Norwegian veal comes with early-season vegetables, Parmesan and a lemon thyme jus. White asparagus is paired with Noir de Bigorre ham and hollandaise. To finish, strawberries with sweetened cream, meringue, elderflower and a strawberry-lemon verbena sorbet. Each dish is grounded in recognisable French cuisine while leaning on specifically Norwegian sourcing — a balance that defines the restaurant's identity.

For those who want to explore further, the à la carte menu and group menus offer additional range, and there is always space at the kitchen bar for walk-ins.

The Wine List

The wine list at Cru is one of the larger ones in Oslo, available both by the glass and by the bottle across a wide range of styles and price points. That depth is precisely what drew Wine Spectator's recognition — the Best of Award of Excellence acknowledges lists that go well beyond the expected, offering genuine breadth and intelligent selection. Wine pairing is a natural part of the experience here, and occasional special evenings — such as collaborations with celebrity sommelier Liora Levi — bring six curated wines alongside six courses.

The Atmosphere

Cru describes itself as a neighbourhood restaurant, and that spirit carries through everything from the terrace on a sunny afternoon to a full evening with close friends. The team explicitly welcomes afterwork drinks on the terrace, spontaneous visits, a quick glass between meetings, or a long dinner. A private dining room (Chambre Séparée) and catering services extend the offer for larger occasions. Groups of nine or more are handled by email, keeping the personal touch intact.
