The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Fine Dining at the Edge of Texel

Restaurant RJ occupies a singular position on the island of Texel — literally and figuratively. Its original home at De Robbenjager, at the foot of Texel's lighthouse, set the tone for everything the restaurant stands for: a setting that demands something more than an ordinary meal. The kitchen answers that demand with French-inflected seafood cuisine that carries what the team calls "a Texel twist" — pure flavours shaped by the island's own character, presented on beautifully composed plates.

The People Behind the Plate

At the centre of Restaurant RJ are two figures: Patrick van der Hoek in the kitchen and Jordy Schuijl, who holds the rare combination of roles as sommelier, chef, and owner. Schuijl's own words say it plainly: "The team is the most important player in our restaurant. We guarantee day in and day out to provide a fantastic evening for you." That commitment to the collective — kitchen and front of house working in step — is what gives the restaurant its consistency.

The Menu and the Wine

Guests choose from surprise menus of 4, 5, 6, or 7 courses, with the option of a fully all-in format for those who want the complete experience. For smaller parties of up to five, à la carte dining is also available. The French seafood cooking is matched by a wine bar of exceptional depth — more than 500 labels from across the world. It is that wine programme, curated with a sommelier's precision, that earned Restaurant RJ the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2025, one of the guide's most respected recognitions for restaurants that go beyond a standard list.

A Temporary Home, the Same Standard

Restaurant RJ is currently operating from a pop-up location at Gravenstraat 7 in the heart of Den Burg, while its permanent home is prepared. The change of address has not changed the ambition. The venue is also available for private hire — weddings, corporate events, and celebrations of all kinds — making it one of Texel's most distinctive options for a special occasion.
