The story
The Lobby Fizeaustraat sits in green Amsterdam-Oost, a short walk from Amstel station, and operates as part of Hotel V. The space brings together a spacious restaurant, lounge, and bar under one roof, with two dedicated event rooms — The Private and The Palm — available for private dinners, board meetings, or cocktail parties. The interior was designed in-house by the Hotel V project team, with carefully sourced pieces that lean into a mid-century aesthetic without feeling cold. Acoustics are taken seriously here: conversations stay audible, the music is curated, and the atmosphere is genuinely relaxed rather than performatively so.
The kitchen is open and central to the room — a deliberate choice that makes the cooking part of the experience. The European menu changes every season, built around locally sourced ingredients and a commitment to quality over convention. Expect unexpected flavour combinations and up to six courses at dinner, though the format is yours to choose. Beyond dinner, The Lobby runs breakfast seven days a week, weekend brunches, and lunch daily, making it a full-day destination rather than just an evening stop.
The wine list is where The Lobby Fizeaustraat draws particular attention. Described by the restaurant itself as a "winemaker's winelist," it focuses on small, independent producers — with a strong emphasis on Burgundy, Jura, and Champagne. That curatorial focus earned the restaurant Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in 2024, a recognition that reflects genuine depth and selectivity rather than sheer volume. Wines are available by the glass at the bar, paired with dinner courses, or explored on their own alongside the bar's selection of beers and cocktails. Specialty coffee and tea round out the offering for those arriving earlier in the day.
The ethos here is straightforward: high standards, no pretension. Whether you come for a coffee and the morning papers, a business lunch, or a full fine dining evening, the approach is the same — attentive, warm, and without ceremony. The team is trained through the in-house V-Academy, covering everything from product provenance to coffee and spirits, which shows in the quality of service without it ever feeling scripted.
