The story
Casa Nostra is the personal project of Cristina and Marco, who have turned their home on Terraplén 8 into one of San Miguel de Allende's most quietly distinguished dining destinations. The concept is straightforward and sincere: open the doors of a private residence, set a table with care, and share the kind of Italian and European cooking that comes from years of travel and genuine love of the table.
The rooftop terrace is the setting that defines the experience — a panoramic view over San Miguel de Allende's rooftops and church spires, best appreciated at dusk over a glass from the wine cellar. The atmosphere is romantic and unhurried, with an attention to design and art that gives the space personality beyond mere decoration.
The menu draws on Mediterranean recipes interpreted with a nouvelle cuisine sensibility. Homemade pasta is a cornerstone — made in-house and central to the Italian identity of the cooking. Alongside it, the kitchen works with local, organic fruits and vegetables and grills different cuts of meat over an open parilla. Freshness, in the team's own words, is the mantra.
The wine program has earned Casa Nostra a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, recognizing the cellar as one of the best in Mexico. With more than 145 labels on offer, it is a serious list by any standard — and a natural companion to the European cooking on the plate.
What sets Casa Nostra apart from many fine dining addresses is its stated commitment to giving back. The restaurant actively supports non-profit organizations in Mexico and the United States focused on children with special needs, including CALI in Querétaro, Casita Linda, Patronato Pro Niños, and a local school for deaf children. It is a reflection of the values Cristina and Marco bring to the whole enterprise — hospitality as something more than a transaction.
