The story
Belforno Ristorante sits on Alfonso Reyes 108 in the Hipódromo Condesa, carrying forward more than 15 years of tradition rooted in its predecessor, Belfiore. The project was built on a straightforward conviction: authentic Italian cuisine, made with genuine care, belongs in Mexico City.
The wood-fired oven is the defining piece of the room — both literally and philosophically. Pizzas emerge from it with the char and lightness that only live fire produces, and the kitchen extends that same handcrafted approach to its pasta, all made in-house. One regular puts it plainly: "La mejor pasta de México se come aquí… hecha en casa, sin pretensiones, simplemente comida hecha con pasión." The pasta al burro with black or white truffle has become something of a signature, spoken about with the kind of quiet loyalty that takes years to earn.
The atmosphere at Belforno is warm without being theatrical — the sort of place that works equally well for a family lunch, a work dinner, or a long evening with friends. Guests consistently note the attentive, unhurried service alongside food that arrives with strong presentation and even stronger flavor.
The Italian wine list draws particular attention. The selection is broad, the curation considered, and — unusually for the neighborhood — the pricing is genuinely competitive. For guests who want to explore Italian labels without the usual Condesa markup, it functions as a destination in itself.
Gambero Rosso, the authoritative Italian food and wine guide, awarded Belforno a slice in its 2024 edition — a meaningful distinction that places this Mexico City address within a select group of Italian restaurants recognized internationally for quality and authenticity.
Belforno also offers takeaway and delivery, and can accommodate private parties — making it one of the more versatile Italian tables in the city.
