Five Foot Road at MGM COTAI

Five Foot Road revives the grandeur of 1940s Chengdu mansion banquets in Macau, guided by a Forbes Five-Star chef with four decades of Sichuan mastery.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

The Spirit of Chengdu in Cotai

Five Foot Road draws its identity from the great mansion banquets of 1940s Chengdu, bringing that tradition to the heart of MGM COTAI with quiet confidence. The premise is straightforward and ambitious in equal measure: classic Sichuan cuisine in its full range — not merely the fiery and hot, but what the restaurant calls "hundred flavors beyond fiery and hot." Ingredients arrive from the source, with fresh spices, well salt, and wild mushrooms sourced directly from Sichuan and Yunnan.

Chef Yang Dengquan

At the center of it all is Executive Sous Chef Yang Dengquan, a second-generation inheritor of traditional Chengdu Mansion Cuisine who has led Five Foot Road since its opening. With four decades of culinary experience behind him, Chef Yang has catered large-scale government events and celebrity gatherings across Asia, and his reputation rests on precise technique, exceptional knife skills, and an encyclopedic command of Sichuan flavors. His work earned Five Foot Road a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star designation — recognition that reflects both the kitchen's consistency and the depth of the overall experience.

The seasonal menu offers a clear window into his approach. A summer selection highlights ginger paired with premium land and sea ingredients: thin-sliced pig's ear with pickled ginger and chili sauce for a spicy, appetite-sharpening opener, and steamed spotted garoupa with ginger oil, pickled cowpeas, and chili — layered heat that stays precise rather than overwhelming. Century-old dishes from old Chengdu also appear, including stewed duck with matsutake mushrooms.

Room and Atmosphere

The dining rooms are modeled after a classic Chengdu mansion, with floor-to-ceiling glass panels depicting Chinese ink paintings of Chengdu scenes across the four seasons. Authentic ornaments, landscape paintings, poetry, and calligraphy by contemporary artist Li Lei complete the setting — cultural immersion that feels considered rather than decorative.

A dedicated tea lounge and bar rounds out the experience. Guests can explore an extensive collection of Sichuan teas, including a customized tea-pairing menu, alongside Sichuan liquors and wines from China's top vineyards — a fitting complement to one of Macau's most serious Sichuan tables.
