The story
Perched above the rooftops of Beyoğlu atop The Marmara Pera hotel, Mikla is one of Istanbul's most celebrated dining destinations — and a name recognised far beyond Turkey's borders. In 2018, it claimed the #44 spot on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list, a distinction that cemented its reputation as a beacon of modern Anatolian cuisine on the global stage.
Mikla's kitchen draws deeply from the breadth of Anatolian culinary heritage, reinterpreting traditional ingredients and techniques with a refined, contemporary hand. Menus are printed daily, shaped entirely by what the kitchen receives fresh — a commitment to seasonality that keeps every visit singular.
Guests may choose between a three-course prix fixe à la carte menu or the more immersive seven-course tasting menu, with a dedicated Vegan Tasting also available. Before and after the main courses, the chef sends out additional bites — small gestures that frame the meal with warmth and intention.
Standout dishes speak the language of modern Anatolian cuisine fluently: Whole Wheat Mantı arrives with smoked buffalo yoghurt, tomato and roasted garlic; Charred Calamari is paired with Yedikule lettuce and tarator sauce; Braised Lamb Shank is finished with reduced Çalkarası wine and sumac; and the Black Mulberry Soup dessert — with buffalo yoghurt ice cream, rakı and cardamom — offers a quietly brilliant close to the meal.
The wine list at Mikla numbers 450 selections with an inventory of approximately 4,500 bottles, stored in climate-controlled cellars and Euro caves. Thirty wines are available by the glass, supplemented by a daily rotation of eight to ten additional pours. The service team is continuously trained — the majority holding WSET certification — ensuring that wine pairing here is as considered as the food itself. Turkish varietals feature prominently, from Narince and Kalecik Karası to Sauvignon Blanc from Trakya.
Mikla observes a 'Smart Chic' dress code, setting the tone for an evening that is polished yet genuinely hospitable. With outdoor seating, wheelchair access and parking available, the experience is as thoughtfully curated off the plate as on it. The restaurant welcomes guests Monday through Saturday from 18:00, with the bar continuing until 02:00 — an invitation to let the night unfold at its own elegant pace.
