The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Corner of Italy in Nairobi

La Dolce Vita was founded in 2001 by Chef Riccardo Fiora, an authentic Tuscan who moved to Kenya in the 1990s and brought with him both the culinary art and the deep-rooted passion of his home region. He combined elegance, finesse and excellent Italian cuisine into a restaurant that quickly became one of the most respected in the city. After his passing, his heirs have continued the family tradition, with an Italian manager and an Italian chef at the kitchen's helm — maintaining the same attention to detail that Riccardo established from the start. That continuity of craft is precisely what earned La Dolce Vita recognition in the Gambero Rosso guide, Italy's most authoritative voice on Italian food culture worldwide.

The Setting

Located at the Muthaiga Shopping Centre on Limuru Road, the restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is bright and airy, its walls hung with artworks depicting the best views of Florence. The wide terrace is a draw in its own right — a space where, as the restaurant puts it, romantic moments become unforgettable memories. Free parking makes it an easy choice for lunch or dinner, any day of the week.

What's on the Plate

The menu is a thorough tour of authentic Italian cuisine. Homemade pasta is a cornerstone: tagliolini with black squid ink and fresh lobster sauce, pappardelle with queen prawns, ricotta and spinach ravioli, gnocchi in pesto, and hand-rolled pici in the Tuscan tradition. Starters lean on quality Italian ingredients — bresaola with rucola and Parmigiano, homemade mozzarella caprese, mussels and clams sautéed with garlic crostini. Pizzas are baked in a brick wood-burning oven and range from a classic Margherita to the house Pizza Dolce Vita with rocket and olives.

Main courses span grilled meats, veal escalopes and a strong selection of seafood — red snapper, jumbo prawns, grilled salmon and a mixed seafood grill. The desserts are made in-house, including Cannoli alla Siciliana and a Millefoglie with custard and strawberries.

Regional Depth

Beyond the main menu, La Dolce Vita offers a rotating regional menu that takes diners through Italy's distinct culinary geographies — Tuscany, Liguria, Puglia and beyond. Dishes like Grandmother's Peposo (a slow-cooked Chianti beef stew from the hills of Impruneta), Trofie in pesto di maggiorana e noci from Liguria, and Puglia's Orecchiette with broccoli and anchovies reflect a genuine commitment to regional storytelling rather than a generic "Italian" shorthand.

The Wine List

Wine is treated with the same seriousness as the food. The cellar holds over 100 labels selected exclusively from Italian producers. As the restaurant puts it: "wine is a passion, a culture, is Italy, is art" — a companion to special moments and to everyday life alike.
