The story
In the quiet countryside of Borgoricco, just north of Padua, Storie d'Amore is the result of a partnership that began long before the restaurant itself. Massimo Foffani — born in 1964, early into the restaurant world and later a certified AIS sommelier — first crossed paths with a teenage Davide in his own kitchen. That early working friendship, deepened over years of shared experience, eventually led the two to open Storie d'Amore together in 2008.
The restaurant earned recognition from Gambero Rosso with 2 Forks, a mark of quality that reflects the consistent care both men bring to their respective crafts. La Repubblica listed it among the thirty best restaurants in Veneto, and Italian press has repeatedly praised the kitchen's balance of creativity and approachability.
Davide came to cooking at fourteen and spent his formative years moving through the kitchens of elite restaurants and pastry shops, absorbing technique and sharpening his passion. He has a particular love for pastry, a discipline he explored deeply enough to contribute to the cookbook Dietro le quinte di una grande Passione, co-authored with chef Paolo Bodon — one of his most influential mentors.
Massimo's domain is the dining room and the cellar. His sommelier training opened the door to a constant search for lesser-known producers with exceptional wines — Champagne and great Italian labels anchor the list, alongside fine distillates. The wine tasting pairings, offered at three levels, reflect this ongoing curiosity.
The restaurant has made a deliberate choice to serve its food in tasting-menu format — structured enough to guide the diner, flexible enough to suit different appetites. Options range from a two- or three-course introduction for first-time visitors to a full eight-course menu shaped entirely by the chef's imagination. A five-course vegetarian menu and a seven-course fish menu round out the offer.
Il Mattino captured the spirit well: "Every course is a small emotion, a pleasure on the palate and a feast for the eyes." That combination of visual care and genuine flavour, served in what the press has described as a "romantic courtyard in the green," is what Storie d'Amore has been quietly delivering since 2008.
