The story
Hotel restaurants rarely inspire much confidence, which makes Vox Brasserie & Bar at the Hilton Nordica in Reykjavík a genuine surprise. The White Guide singled it out at "Very fine level" in 2026, noting that what Vox serves is "a bold showcase of distinctly Icelandic ingredients with none of the tired foam- and spherification clichés" — a pointed compliment in a dining scene that can lean heavily on technique for its own sake.
The dining room sets a clear mood: dark wood panelling, brandy-coloured leather, deep blue velvet and crisp white tablecloths. At the centre of the room, a glass wine cellar holds the bottles that anchor one of the most ambitious wine lists in Iceland — fine wines available by the glass, so every course can be matched without committing to a full bottle.
In the kitchen, the Chef de Cuisine leads a team committed to what the restaurant calls "classic, innovative and colourful combinations," working from fresh ingredients and traditional methods rather than novelty for its own sake. The menu spans modern Icelandic cooking alongside international classics, with the Icelandic pantry consistently informing the plate.
Vox runs from early morning through late evening. Breakfast starts the day, a modern lunch buffet runs on weekdays, and the weekend brunch — described by the restaurant as the most extensive in Reykjavík — draws a lively Saturday and Sunday crowd. Come evening, the room shifts into a more refined register for dinner service, while the VOX Bar offers Happy Hour, High Tea each afternoon, and bar bites well into the night.
For private occasions, the space accommodates everything from wedding receptions to company anniversaries, with a dedicated events programme that extends the brasserie's hospitality beyond the everyday table.
