The story
Restaurant Scarpati has been a fixture of serious dining in Wuppertal for more than fifty years. In 1982, gastronome Aniello Scarpati acquired the house on Scheffelstraße, blending its historic character with a contemporary vision to create the fine dining destination it remains today. That longevity is no accident: the kitchen has consistently drawn recognition from leading guides, including the Michelin, and most recently earned 2 Forks from Gambero Rosso in 2025 — a mark of the sustained quality that keeps guests returning season after season.
The menu at Scarpati is built around regional and seasonal produce, handled with genuine ambition. White asparagus arrives in spring; truffle takes centre stage in autumn. The approach is international in spirit and rigorous in execution — fresh, precise, and calibrated to quality above all else. Wines are sourced from top estates, predominantly Italian, reflecting the house's deep roots in that tradition.
In 2024, marking the restaurant's fiftieth anniversary, Anke Scarpati handed the reins to Tristan Raff and Aleksander Jevdevic — both long-serving chefs who know the kitchen and its guests intimately. Alongside restaurant director Jörg Speck and a tight-knit team, they are the custodians of what Scarpati has always stood for, while bringing fresh energy to the next era.
The restaurant occupies a handsome house with several distinct atmospheres. The main dining room carries a particular elegance; a smaller, more intimate room suits those who prefer a quieter setting. In warmer months, a covered and heated terrace opens onto a garden, extending the season well into the evening. For private celebrations, groups of up to twenty or more can be accommodated outside regular opening hours — a detail that makes Scarpati a natural choice for events that call for something more considered than the ordinary.
