The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Over Four Decades of Italian Cooking in Munich

Osteria der Katzlmacher has been part of Munich's dining fabric since 1983, when it first opened on Kaulbachstrasse. In 2006, Giorgio Cherubini moved the restaurant to its current address at Bräuhausstrasse 6, right in the centre of the city, where it has since weathered economic crises and a global pandemic — sustained, as the team readily acknowledges, by the loyalty of its guests and friends. That kind of longevity is not accidental. Recognised by Gambero Rosso in 2025, the osteria has earned its standing through consistency, quality ingredients, and a genuine love of Italian food in its full breadth.

The Kitchen's Philosophy

The menu changes daily, which is both a discipline and a statement of intent. Every dish is built around original Italian products, chosen with care and prepared in-house. The kitchen covers the whole of Italy — from antipasti like Burrata di Bufala con Pomodorini e Fregola Sarda or Polipo con Cecina e Chutney di Pomodoro, through a range of handmade pastas such as Caramelle di Patate e Gorgonzola con Noci or Spaghetti Vongole, to fish and meat mains including whole sea bass for two and a Florentine steak. Desserts follow the same attentiveness — a classic tiramisù, panna cotta with cherries, or a chocolate mousse with Voatsiperifery pepper ice cream.

Gluten-free options are always available, and the kitchen accommodates dietary intolerances as a matter of course, not an afterthought.

Lunch, Cellar and Special Evenings

At midday, the osteria offers three tiers of business menus — from a quick pasta and espresso at €22.50 to a full three-course Business Lunch at €47 — making it as practical for a working lunch as it is for a leisurely evening. The wine cellar, stocked with bottles from small producers alongside well-known labels, is treated with the same seriousness as the food.

Several times a year, the restaurant hosts themed evenings: CocoRadicchio in February, CocoFungo in October, a New Year's Eve menu, and seasonal Christmas dinners. These events pair considered menus with selected wines in what the team describes simply as a stylish setting. The space also hosts an ongoing exhibition of NATURGESTALTen sculptures by Elke Unkrig, and selected Italian products — olive oils, preserved vegetables, wines, grappa, salumi — are available to purchase directly.

For private events, the restaurant can be booked exclusively for up to 90 guests, making it a genuine option for larger gatherings that still want the warmth of an Italian osteria rather than a banquet hall.
